Get To Know the Working Principle of Planetary Gearbox

The working principle of planetary gearbox involves three main components:

  • Sun gear
  • Planet gear
  • Ring gear

All gears have different degrees of freedom.

Under normal circumstances, we have:

Planetary gears rotating around a sun gear

·         Planetary gears that rotate freely on a mobile arm. Sometimes they can rotate relative to the sun gear.

·         During the operation, the whole process incorporates a crown or ring

Depending on the arrangement of the gears, we can have a simple or complex planetary gearbox.

That is, a simple planetary gearbox has planetary gears, carrier, ring gear, and sun gear. On the other hand, composite planetary gears have structures of crushed planets, staggered planets, and multi-stage.

The differences between these types of gearboxes depending on the desired gear ratio, torque-to-weight ratio, and flexibility in settings.

So what do all of these entail?

In a simple planetary gearbox, when the input power turns the sun gear, the planets around the center axis begin to rotate.

That is, the planets mesh with the sun, forcing them to rotate as a whole. At the end of the process, as the carrier rotates, it delivers the desired output torque.

Again, keeping either part at a fixed point, while using the other sections as an outlet or inlet, gives different degrees of power or speed.
